Mode saklar/switching ini banyak digunakan untuk kebutuhan daya yang lebih besar. Sistem SMPU lebih efisien, panas yang terbuang lebih sedikit, sehingga membutuhkan ruang lebih sedikit dibandingkan pengatur linier konvensional.
